What We Do

small fluffy child bob macgregorEvery Saturday is a coaching day at the Trials Academy with riders of all ages ranging from four year olds to seventy four year olds, boys or girls, men or women taking part and enjoying the fun. Trials is also a great family sport with many a father and son/daughter combination.

Lots of people we talk to have heard of the 1980’s TV series “Kickstart” and maybe have wanted to have a go but don’t know where or how to start. We can now provide that chance to try this incredibly popular activity in a controlled and legal environment. We even have helmets, boots and trials gear you can borrow until you get your own with bikes also available to try if pre-arranged.  Advice on all aspects of coming into our sport such as what bike and riding gear to buy, bike maintenance, what club to join, how to get a competition license and where the trials competitions are being held is available.

We currently have twelve volunteer coaches whose aims are to develop and train anyone who wishes to try our sport whether for fun or competition. First Aiders are also on hand for any mishaps. The rider’s ability is assessed and training sections are marked out accordingly, advice is then given to help them through successfully. It’s amazing how quickly you will progress when you have a grasp of the basics. There is no set pace for anyone to keep to; everyone progresses at their own speed.

The Trials Academy holds an annual Fancy Dress Fundraising Fun Trial in early November which is proving to be extremely popular with riders, some even travelling up from England to take part. The event starts off with a trial, which for some is not easily ridden in fancy dress, then some games such as “Jousting” and “Limbo” that are always good for a laugh! We have a barbecue and hot food, and it’s all topped off with an immense fireworks display!
